Group critical illness and accident insurance plans pay you in the event that you get a “Dread Disease”. It is designed to pay you in the event you get one of these conditions in the future. The conditions paid for are long term, serious, and debilitating issues. These issues typically result in a loss of income and cause added expenses. Every plan design on these policies are different, as some policies will cover 5 conditions and some over 20. It is important to look these over very carefully. Typical illnesses and diseases that are covered, include but are not limited to, Cancer, Heart Attack, Stroke, Renal Failure, Paralysis, Loss of Limbs, etc.
What is an Accident Plan
Group accident insurance pays you for injuries, complications, and or death resulting from a named accident. These plans typically have a small deductible before they pay out. They are designed to cover costs of an unexpected event all the way up to loss of life and future earnings. Examples can be as simple as a child’s broken arm from a football game, to loss of life from a named accident.
How do they pay you?
Both group critical illness and accident insurance pay out in lump sum benefits. You can use that money anyway you like. For example, you could use it to pay for things like medical bills, or living expenses.
Payouts on Critical Illness plans tend to be anywhere from $5,000 all the way up to $500,000. Payment of $10,000 to $50,000 are most typical. Accident plan payouts tend to be anywhere from a few hundred dollars up to $75,000.
You can purchase Critical Illness Plans and Accident Plans on a group or individual/family basis. The group plans can be sponsored by the employer where they pay 50 to 100% of the plan for their employees or it can be purchased on a voluntary basis, where the employer contributes nothing.
